Weekend Recap: Resident Tourist

I have the very enjoyable task goal of playing tourist in my own city and I couldn’t be happier.  I love traveling and what is better than being able to do everything that entails traveling, but staying within your comforts of home?  This is, so far, one of my favorite things about having moved to a new city.

Saturday threatened rain, though it was little concern to us – after all, it’s what we signed up for!  We went to the Woodland Park Zoo and actually got to see a lot of animal activity.  The wolves were napping, wild bunnies roamed the zoo grounds and a brown bear, just inches away from me (separated by glass, of course!) played in the water and blew bubbles.  How fun!  Afterwards, we met friends were in town visiting at Bamboo Garden, for a vegetarian Chinese meal.

On Sunday we revisited Pike Place Market, this time being able to see it in full bloom of summer.  There is such an energy in the air that is so contagious, perhaps due to the excitement of actual tourists visiting, and the colors of the fresh produce and rows of flowers were wonderful to behold.  Local craftsman displayed unique, beautiful or functional items.  It was a gorgeous day, so we took our fresh fish ‘n chips lunch over to the park nearby with its water views and enjoyed a cool early summer breeze.

We’ve also been to Mox Boarding House for boardgame date nights in the past couple weeks, which has been great fun.  We love board games and on Tuesdays, Mox gives you a discount for any games you try in-house and decide to purchase.  We’ve discovered a few new games this way and is quickly becoming our favorite tradition.

I am so looking forward to the weekends to come.  There is so much to Washington we haven’t yet seen and for us foodies, the culinary possibilities are endless.  My waistline is not going to thank me for this…
